CHILDREN'S CLASSES
Classes for children in Kindergarten through Grade 5 are held in the Parish Center on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m.
CATECHISTS --
AIDES -- SUBSTITUTES
Catechists, classroom aides, and substitutes work in pairs in the classroom to provide the children with enjoyable and interesting opportunities to grow in faith, in their relationship with God, in their understanding of the church. Opportunities for ongoing training are available, and user-friendly teaching resources are provided.
CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD MINISTERS
This ministry is designed to help children ages 5-9 hear and understand the Sunday Scriptures at their level. It is liturgical celebration, not religion class. The children gather with their family in Church. After the Opening Prayer the children are dismissed along with the adults who have prepared to proclaim the Scriptures to them. They rejoin the full assembly at the Presentation of the Gifts. Children's Liturgy of The Word is available during the 9 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart, the 8:30 a.m. Mass at Holy Rosary and 10 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Adult volunteers receive guidance and resources to help them prepare to lead the children in prayer and reflection, and to proclaim God's Word to them.
CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR CHILDREN (RCIA)
For children who have reached catechetical age (usually about age 7) we have an ongoing process called the catechumenate (a catechumen is a person undergoing instruction). The process is often referred to as the RCIA. It is adapted to the age and ability of the children. Catechists work with the children and their families.
INFANT BAPTISMAL TEAM
The Baptism of a child is a family event within the community of a Parish Church. The Baptism ceremony is a public commitment that parents make to bring up their child in the way of life and faith presented in the Catholic tradition. A team of parishioners takes part in befriending and preparing parents for the celebration of their child's Baptism. New team members are always welcome! Contact Fr. Pat (ext. 13)
PREPARATION FOR FIRST RECONCILIATION AND FIRST EUCHARIST
Takes place within the family. The parish provides guidance and support through Parent Meetings and workbooks for home use.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS)
VBS is a fun, exciting summer opportunity for children to grow in their understanding of the Bible and in their relationship with God. They share music, crafts, activities and snacks with friends new and old. VBS is open to children throughout the Metro-Central Region and is held at various locations. Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Manitou Springs usually hosts a VBS in August. A variety of volunteers are needed for advance preparation, as well as on site.
NURSERY
The St. Nicholas Nursery is open during the 9:00
a.m. Mass at
Sacred Heart. Children ages 1-4 participate in age-appropriate, fun-filled,
faith-nurturing activities. Children are well cared for by competent,
responsible volunteers. This is a place where our children experience God's love
in the attention, smiles and hugs of their caregivers. We believe that as the
faith of the little ones grows so will the faith of their families, as they are
more easily able to participate in their own worship. Additional volunteers are
always welcome!
OFFICE HELPER
Assists with Faith Formation Office tasks as needed. Flexible scheduling and "on call" opportunities are available for volunteers.
